Revised I-9 Form Coming in November

On August 25, the White House Office of Management and Budget approved a revised Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services must publish a new version by November 22, 2016.

Employers may continue using the current version of Form I-9 with a revision date of March 8, 2013 until January 21, 2017. All previous versions of the Form I-9 will be invalid after that date.
The new form will have also include "smart" error-checking features and have an expiration date of August 31, 2019. These new features include drop-down menus and calendars, embedded instructions for completing each field, and data validations to ensure data is entered correctly when the form is completed using an Adobe PDF viewer.
Because the new I-9 form is not electronic, employers using Adobe Reader will still need to print the form, obtain handwritten signatures, store in a secure place, monitor reverifications and updates with a calendaring system, and retype information into E-Verify as required.
