Background Checks

NCS makes navigating Wisconsin background checks easier! Whether you work in agriculture, shipping, manufacturing, mining, or a different industry, background checks are a critical part of the hiring process.

Wisconsin

Accessing Criminal Records

In Wisconsin, private and public employers may legally conduct pre-employment background checks, including reviewing conviction records. NCS helps make these reports easy to read, summarizing convictions and serious pending cases related to your applicant.

Employers may not ask about or consider:

  • Expunged arrest records
  • Charges that were dropped or dismissed
  • Non-conviction records
  • Sealed records
  • Any expunged information a candidate is not required to disclose

By law, employers must inform applicants that they are under no obligation to disclose expunged charges.

Additionally, under Wisconsin law, caregiver employers are required to perform background checks during the hiring process and re-check every four years thereafter.
